Tambo Waste Pty Ltd received funding through the Recycling Modernisation Fund to improve capacity of the Materials Recycling Facility (MRF) in Bairnsdale. Gippsland MP Darren Chester said the project will expand current operations and capacity and establish a dedicated glass recycling facility.

The $993,000 project has been jointly funded through the Federal Government’s Recycling Modernisation Fund and the Victorian State Government’s Recycling Victoria Infrastructure Fund

Increasing recyclable recovery

Mr Chester said, "The upgrade will double through-put, increase recovery of all recyclable streams and a focussed recovery of clean glass for further processing and grading for targeted end-use markets. It will also mean the facility can recycle these products onsite in Bairnsdale rather than being transported to Sale and then onto Melbourne which is the current process."

"The addition of the glass recycling facility will recycle glass from the new glass only kerbside bins and glass from the commercial and industrial sector as well. This glass will then be available to local users to be used in projects such as road base, asphalt and concrete." Mr Chester said.

Mr Chester said the upgrade would also support local jobs and industry. "The increased local capacity will support local jobs now and into the future and provide important recycling infrastructure to service Gippsland," Mr Chester said.
