The 2025 Sporting Club Grants Program is closing soon, with The Nationals' Member for Eastern Victoria, Melina Bath encouraging local clubs to apply for this much-needed funding. This year, a significant portion of the funding will focus on supporting the volunteers and officials who are essential to the success of community sport.

Melina Bath urges local clubs to propose initiatives supporting volunteers and members while seeking funding for administration, travel, and uniform costs, which are particularly expensive for regional clubs

Funding for volunteers

Grants of up to $5,000 are available for projects that enhance the skills and knowledge of volunteers, coaches, and officials, as well as initiatives aimed at improving volunteer retention. Additional funding opportunities include:

Up to $4,000 to support clubs in delivering new programs to the community
Up to $1,000 for uniforms and equipment
$750 travel grants to assist clubs in attending competitions away from home

"Volunteers are the backbone of community sport across our region. Without them, our grassroots sporting clubs would not be able to function. With increasingly busy lifestyles, supporting and retaining our treasured volunteers is more critical than ever," Ms Bath said.

Support for sports and recreation

Ms Bath also said, "I encourage local clubs to put forward initiatives that support their volunteers and members to help keep them engaged in grassroots sport. Clubs can also apply for funding to competition administration, athlete travel and uniform costs, which can add up significantly, particularly for clubs in regional areas."
