Community consultation on new home for Mallacoota paramedics and ambulance officers on 27 October 2022

The Andrews Labor government is building a new state-of-the-art, environmentally friendly ambulance branch for Mallacoota, with the community being urged to have a say on its future.

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing today invited locals to a community consultation session to look at plans and give feedback on the new branch that will replace ageing facilities on Betka Road. The new purpose-built home for Mallacoota's paramedics and Ambulance Community Officers will also be Ambulance Victoria's first 'net zero' branch, featuring the latest sustainability initiatives to cut greenhouse gas emissions.

Rebuilding a branch

The project will rebuild the branch following the bushfires of 2019/20, ensuring paramedics and Community Officers have the facilities and support they need to quickly respond to local emergencies and save lives. It will feature a three-bay enclosed garage for ambulances, two rest and recline areas for hard-working paramedics to recuperate, a relievers area for out-of-town paramedics, training spaces to enhance skills and improved security and car parking to make sure paramedics stay safe.

A contemporary branch with the latest technology and comfort will make a real difference to the local team, better meeting the needs of a modern ambulance service. The new Mallacoota Branch will be delivered by Ambulance Victoria.

The Labor government has delivered more than $249 million since 2015 to upgrade and rebuild ambulance branches and provide better working conditions for paramedics - ensuring lifesaving emergency care is available for all Victorians. The community consultation session will run from:

• 4pm - 6pm
• Thursday, 27 October 2022
• 82 Betka Road, Mallacoota

This new branch forms part of the government's continued investment in Ambulance Victoria, bolstered by an additional $124 million in the Victorian Budget 2022/23 to employ more paramedics, buy new vehicles and get more Victorians the care they need.

Ensuring best lifesaving emergency

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "We're making sure paramedics in Mallacoota have the facilities to do what they do best - save lives. This modern ambulance station will ensure local families receive the best lifesaving emergency care now and into the future. Following the devastating bushfires, this new branch is an important investment for the Mallacoota community and local paramedics."
