South Gippsland Group of Melbourne Legacy and Warragul RSL share in $16,141.42 Anzac Day proceeds

The Andrews Labor Government is continuing to support and honour Victoria's veteran community, backing dozens of programs to boost the wellbeing of veterans and their families.

Member for EasternVictoria Harriet Shing announced a total of $16,141.42 from the Anzac Day Proceeds Fund would go towards two organisations in Gippsland, recognising the enormous sacrifices of veterans and their families and ensuring these are remembered across our state.

The Anzac Day Proceeds Fund in South Gippsland supports the veteran community by funding a range of wellbeing-related activities providing welfare to the ex-service community

Commemorating veterans

The South Gippsland Group of Melbourne Legacy Inc will receive a grant of $7,200 to provide continued fuel support to 36 widows across Phillip Island, Wonthaggi, Inverloch, Korumburra, Leongatha, and Foster. The program will provide $200 to the 36 widows and veterans to assist with their 2023 heating bills. The Warragul RSL Sub-branch Inc. will receive a grant of $8,941.42 to provide veteran-focused wellbeing retreats throughout 2023 for local veterans and their partners.

More than $806,000 is being invested in 22 projects through the Anzac Day Proceeds Fund, which supports wellbeing-related activities. More than $180,400 will also be distributed to 16 projects through the Victoria Remembers Grant Program, which provides grants of up to $30,000 for initiatives that honour or commemorate veterans' service or educate Victorians about the invaluable contributions of veterans

The Victorian Veterans Council, an independent body that provides advice to the Government on issues affecting the Victorian veteran community, assess applications and allocate grants through these programs. Supporting innovation

Minister of Veterans Shaun Leane said, "We are providing Victoria's veteran community with the practical support they may need to build a fulfilling life beyond their service - including opportunities to forge social connections and learn new skills."

Member for Eastern Victoria Harriet Shing said, "These grants will support our veteran communities in Warragul and South Gippsland and ensure that the service and sacrifice they have made is remembered and appreciated forever."

Victorian Veterans Council Commodore Chair Greg Yorke, AM, CSC said, "We are proud to be supporting the incredible and innovative work happening across the veteran sector, to ensure the veteran community can thrive as they deserve, and that their contributions are remembered and understood."
