East Gippsland residents are invited to nominate local volunteers for the 'Volunteer Honour Roll', celebrating community dedication
East Gippsland residents are encouraged to nominate local volunteers for the Volunteer Honour Roll, celebrating their community impact and dedication. Nominations are open until National Volunteer Week in May.
Not all heroes wear capes - many are everyday people, quietly making a difference in our communities. While most volunteers don't seek recognition, it's important that we take the time to celebrate their contributions. In this spirit, East Gippsland residents are now invited to nominate themselves or a local volunteer who has made a lasting impact in their community for the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll.
With 19.2% of East Gippslanders volunteering, the Volunteer Honour Roll celebrates those who consistently dedicate time and effort to the community
Honouring volunteer spirit
East Gippslanders consistently demonstrate a deep commitment to giving back. With 19.2% of our population actively volunteering, a rate higher than the regional Victorian average, it's clear that the act of lending a hand is not just an occasional effort but a cherished part of who we are and the East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll is a tribute to the people who dedicate their time, energy, and heart to the region.
Volunteerism in East Gippsland takes on many forms, reflecting the heart and spirit of our region.
Whether it's reading in a child's classroom, fundraising, supporting those in need, coaching junior football, organising remarkable events like the East Gippsland Winter Festival, planting trees with Landcare, or serving on the local committees and boards that strengthen our organisations, these everyday heroes deserve to be acknowledged.
Celebrating local volunteers
Mayor Cr John White highlighted the importance of celebrating volunteers, saying, "Volunteers are the lifeblood of our community - whether they're helping in aged care, emergency services, environmental conservation, or local sports and education. Their efforts make East Gippsland stronger, more connected and a better place to live. We wouldn't be the thriving community we are without them," John said. "If you know someone who deserves a bit of recognition for their volunteer work, nominate them today!"
This strong sense of community and generosity makes East Gippsland a place where people truly care for one another and work together to create a better, stronger future for all. The Volunteer Honour Roll is updated annually during National Volunteer Week in May to celebrate the unsung heroes who help keep East Gippsland running smoothly.
Nominations are open for East Gippsland residents who have volunteered in the past year. For more details and to nominate, visit Form: East Gippsland Volunteer Honour Roll Registration Form. Forms are also available at council's customer service centres or call our Customer Service Centre on (03) 5153 9500.
