Mallacoota Miva cottages work in progress with $2.15 funding secured by Darren Chester
Work to prepare and construct all-abilities cottages in Mallacoota is progressing well according to local MP Darren Chester.
Mr Chester said early demolition in preparation for the project was completed and the design phase was nearing completion. "Once the design works are complete the project will be put out to tender so that construction can begin in the near future," Mr Chester said.

Safe and secure accommodation
Mr Chester said, "I secured $2.15 million for Mallacoota District Health and Support Service (MDHSS) to undertake the Miva Miva project and help address the current housing shortage."
"Over 100 houses were lost during the Black Summer bushfires and the Miva Miva project will help to address housing affordability and access issues. This accommodation is designed for some of the most vulnerable in the community including those with chronic conditions, ageing or living with physical and mental health disabilities."
"Improving access to safe and secure accommodation allows people to stay in the community and receive support for local healthcare service providers." Mr Chester added.
Housing options to improve
MDHSS Chief Executive Officer Anne Mwagiru said it was an important project that would allow people with access or cognitive issues to remain in the community they love. "A priority of MDHSS has always been to increase housing options to improve community health and wellbeing."
"We recognised that Mallacoota lacked accessible accommodation and this project will help us address that. Thank you to Darren for helping us secure this funding and for all his support of the Mallacoota community." Ms Mwagiru said.
