East Gippsland Shire Council has endorsed its Annual Report 2020-21, highlighting the grant programs and projects as support for the community
Three wins in one night
Cr Urie said."A key highlight of the report is the advocacy council conducted for the community, with over $31.4 million of grant funding received in 2020-21 financial year, and a further $35.5m approved for future years under the Local Economy Recovery ($25.5m) and Regional Recovery Partnership ($10m) grants schemes,"
Other highlights include over $35m worth of capital works delivered; the employment of 54 people under the Working for Victoria program; and Council's hat-trick of wins at the LG Pro Awards for Excellence - only the second time in the history that any council has scored three wins on the one night.
Business as usual
Cr Urie noted that Council received and responded to over 70,000 pieces of correspondence, and 15,000 letters, in the 12-month reporting period. "That's an indication of how busy the council has been - it was business as usual on top of all the challenges and disruptions in what was a remarkable year," Cr Urie said.
The report also notes that over 470 community members were engaged during the review of Council's Community Vision and the development of the council plan and, despite the uncertainties and difficulties posed by COVID-19 restrictions and guidelines, some 180 local community events were supported by council to be delivered across the shire.
