Improved broadband with NBN coming to Sale and Bairnsdale
Households in Sale and Bairnsdale will soon have access to higher speed internet as the National Broadband Network (NBN) continues upgrades across Gippsland.
Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said parts of Sale and Bairnsdale would be included in the latest tranche of the NBN's Fibre To The Node (FTTN) to Fibre To The Premises (FTTP) upgrade program. "The upgrades mean that households currently served by FTTN will be eligible for FTTP on demand to increase internet speeds," Mr Chester said.
With more connected devices, and more people working from home than ever before, investment in Australia's digital backbone is continued to ensure people across the country enjoy a future with faster internet
Connectivity as an essential component
Mr Chester said, "The network investment will give up to 75 percent of fixed line premises across Australia access to ultra-fast broadband by 2023." He also said that the upgrades would improve local accessibility to high speed internet and support those working from home.
"The pandemic has shown us the many benefits of living in the regions and how technology has advanced to a stage where working from home or remotely is a real possibility," Mr Chester said.
"I am a huge supporter of decentralisation and connectivity is an essential component of this. Now is the time to keep investing in our regional community infrastructure and ensure we have the connectivity Gippslanders need." Mr Chester also said.
Higher speed plans
Households will be able to start requesting higher speed plans with their chosen internet provider from March 2022. NBN has already undertaken FTTN to FTTP upgrades in Lakes Entrance and Traralgon.
