Domestic Animal Management Plan community workshop and other updates from South Gippsland Shire Council

South Gippsland Shire Council updates on their programs and or projects for the shire community.

The council is currently developing a new four-year draft Domestic Animal Management Plan. The Plan will provide council with a strategic approach towards promotion of responsible pet ownership, providing balance to the needs of pet owners and non-pet owners in the community. It also assists in the welfare of dogs and cats, and protection of the community and environment from nuisance dogs and cats.

Foster shared path

South Gippsland Shire Council has obtained funding by the Transport Accident Commission's (TAC) local government grants program to investigate a possible shared path along Station Road, Foster. The path, which will run between Pearl Park and the Great Southern Rail Trail, will aim to help keep people safe as they walk or cycle in the area.

Council is seeking your feedback to help inform the development of concept designs that will improve the safety, security and amenity for pedestrians and cyclists, whilst also considering current and future demand of residents.

Ausnet Scheduled Power Outages

AusNet has let us know that there will be some scheduled power outages that may affect the operation of some street lights in Loch and Nyora. The outages are scheduled to occur on 11 September between 4am - 5am and 10pm - 11pm. Please contact AusNet for more information.

Australia Day Awards now open

The 2023 South Gippsland Australia Day Awards are now open. The awards provide an opportunity for hardworking residents to be recognised for the significant contribution they make to their local community. There are three award categories:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Young Citizen of the Year
  • Community Event of the Year

Shop Local ~ Eat Local South Gippsland

Shopping and eating locally helps to support South Gippsland businesses and our community. When you shop local it helps to keep money circulating through our towns and is often reinvested into other small businesses.

This month you may notice additional 'Shop Local South Gippsland' and 'Eat Local South Gippsland' messaging across our region in the form of reusable calico bags and compostable coffee cups that will be distributed through many local businesses.

Hard waste booking deadline extended

Have you booked your hard waste collection yet? Time is running out, but you'll be glad to hear that the booking deadline has been extended until Friday 16 September. All South Gippsland residential properties are eligible to receive one collection at a fee of $145 per property.

A reduced rate of $51applies for pension card holders. A maximum of two cubic metres of waste can be placed out for collection and all waste should be located within the property boundary if possible. Bookings can be made online at Hard waste collection service page.
