If you have noticed shops in your town looking refreshed and updated recently, you're not imagining things. Under the Shopfront Improvement Rebate Program, applicants could apply for up to $2000, which was paid after completion of the works and did not need a matching contribution. Works have included new and upgraded signs, exterior painting, landscaping, light fittings, new windows and doors to name a few.

Reinvigorating businesses

Mayor Cr Mark Reeves said the program has made a noticeable improvement to shopfronts. "It was really pleasing to see how many businesses took up this program. The individual businesses have not only boosted the appearance of their own premises, but have helped reinvigorate their business district. It has been a great effort by all involved - all participating businesses should be proud of the results," Cr Reeves said.

Council received $50,000 funding from Regional Development Victoria to deliver the program, partnering with Bass Coast Shire Council. Council also contributed $50,000. The aim of the program was to improve the overall appearance of business districts and attract customers to stop and spend.

The project also delivered one-on-one visual merchandising to over 20 businesses across the region. Further individual support is ongoing. If you like to hear more about visual merchandising support, contact council's Economic Development team on 5153 9500.
