Wellington, East Gippsland and Latrobe City Councils share in $7.7M funding from Local Roads and Community Infrastructure program
Three Gippsland councils will share in $7.7 million in additional Federal Government funding to undertake local priority projects.
Federal Member for Gippsland Darren Chester said the Government is supporting Australia's economic recovery by funding local initiative projects with the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program. In this round of funding, Wellington Shire Council will receive $3.1 million, East Gippsland Shire Council $2.9 million and Latrobe City Council $1.7 million.

Commitment to local government
Mr Chester said, "The federal government has again demonstrated its commitment to local government with a further round of this important program which has already delivered a wide range of projects."
"The LRCI Program supports local councils to deliver priority local road and community infrastructure projects across Australia, supporting jobs and the resilience of local economies to help communities bounce back from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Delivering priority projects
Mr Chester said, "As an economic stimulus measure, the intent is to fund road and community infrastructure projects, including maintenance, which would otherwise not be possible. This program continues to assist every local government in Australia to deliver priority local projects, supporting an estimated 9,000 jobs across Australia over the life of the program, and local business across the nation."
Mr Chester said he would work closely with councils and local communities to identify suitable projects over the next 12 months. "We've already seen things like pump tracks, hall upgrades, roadworks and playgrounds constructed under this program and I will be listening to the ideas of locals and passing them onto councils," Mr Chester said.
