People living with a disability remains priority for Latrobe City Council Disability and Inclusion Plan

Council's Disability and Inclusion Plan 2022 - 25 details our commitment to inclusion for people of all abilities. The Plan outlines how council will work with the community and partner agencies to embed access, inclusion and equity principles. This includes areas of service delivery and in the community under the four priority areas of - Safe, Healthy and Active, Resilient and Supported, Natural and Built Environments.

Improving community's wellbeing

Councils continued work is informed by our Lived Experience. Through council's partnership with the Disability Access & Engagement Group (DAICEG), the DAICEG members have informed the development of a range of activities including the Low Sensory Visitation sessions at Latrobe Regional Gallery. Low Sensory Visitation sessions are perfect for people who would benefit from a quieter gallery experience, with fewer people and reduced sensory stimulus.

Mayor of Latrobe City, Councillor Kellie O'Callaghan said it is important that we remain inclusive to all community members. "Council has partnered with a range of community members who generously share their lived experience of disability as well as other community and service stakeholders, to understand the broadest range of individual and community shared needs and aspirations for the future with a focus on improving our community's health and wellbeing experience."

"Council has a range of services for people living with a disability. This includes multiple Changing Places facilities across our municipality and a range of accessibility options in our venues. We continue to encourage feedback from our community in relation to accessibility in our venues. You can always talk to any of our friendly team members if you have any questions or concerns," said the Mayor.

Community access and inclusion

Low Sensory Visitation hours are currently running at LRG in the first and last hour of each day, 10 - 11am and 3 - 4pm. Auslan tour sessions also run at LRG. To learn more about these programs email lrg@latrobe.vic.gov.au.

Other council facilities cater for people of all abilities, including Gippsland Regional Aquatic Centre and Gippsland Performing Arts Centre.
