Urgent meeting to transition Mallacoota Airport to certification held with CASA, East Gippsland Shire Council, local MPs and community
CASA and Council expect to be in a position to report back to the community and the aviation sector within two weeks on any further action required, and likely timelines to achieve certification.
East Gippsland Shire Council and Civil Aviation Safety Authority (CASA) senior executives held a constructive and positive meeting with representatives of the Mallacoota community and local Members of Parliament on Tuesday, August 9.
Bureaucratic changes which have impacted regional airports like Mallacoota are the latest in a long list of compliance costs and regulations impacting regional aviation
Matter of urgency
The meeting agreed that CASA and Council staff would meet as a matter of urgency and take the appropriate steps to transition Mallacoota Airport to certification and restore the airfield to pre-existing service levels.
The Mallacoota Airport remains open and functional and will continue to be operational while the discussions continue around the restoration of Instrument Flight Procedures and certain Notice to Airmen functions.
