Part of Gippsland Performing Arts Centre $42M redevelopment opens up opportunities for regional creative community workers
The Andrews Labor government is supporting local creative workers and community activities in Traralgon, with the unveiling of new spaces, facilities, and training programs at Gippsland Performing Arts Centre.
Part of Gippsland Performing Arts Centre;s $42 million redevelopment project, the Labor government has supported the creation of two new flexible outdoor event spaces and a large outdoor screen for cinema and video artworks, and improved accessibility at the venue. Complementing the new state-of-the-art 750 seat theatre which opened in March, the outdoor spaces open up opportunities for a range of creative and community events, performances, screenings and activities.

Providing outdoor spaces
In addition to providing more outdoor spaces for the community to enjoy creative events and programming, the Labor government has invested in the refurbishment of indoor spaces to allow the delivery of training programs for creative workers and community activities.
Tech Connect, delivered by Arts Centre Melbourne with support from the Victorian government, is the first professional development program to be delivered at the new Gippsland Performing Arts Centre. The program offers accredited training for people to work behind the scenes of live performances, providing them with the technical skills they need to get a job and build a career in the industry.
Twelve back-of-house workers and aspiring technicians from Gippsland are participating in Tech Connect, undertaking a Nationally Accredited Certificate III in Live Production and Technical Services. Tech Connect will also run at performing arts centres in Geelong, Horsham and Shepparton. Ensuring the skills needed
Parliamentary Secretary for Creative Industries Harriet Shing said, "Cultural hubs like Gippsland Performing Arts Centre breathe creative life into our local community, providing artists and creative workers with a place to work and present exciting events."
