We are holding a community update to find out what has been happening so far on the Protecting our Ponds project, on Wednesday 12 October from 10am - 2pm in the Munro Hall. Come along and find out what has been happening so far and how you may be able to protect ponds on your property and hear about work we have undertaken along with our project partners:
- Trust for Nature
- HVP Plantations
- Wellington Shire
Weather permitting we will visit a local site to see the work that has been undertaken there. We will be following biosecurity guidelines from to Come Clean and Go Clean to minimise the spread of animal diseases.
Protecting our Ponds project will hold its community update on Wednesday 12 October from 10am - 2pm in the Munro Hall
The Perry River, Providence Ponds and their tributaries are a rare type of waterway system, known as a Chain of Ponds. Healthy ponds not only look beautiful but provide a home for threatened plants and animals like the Golden Bell Frog, Dwarf Galaxias and Gaping Lee-Orchid.
Protect and rehabilitate ponds
The purpose of the Protecting our Ponds projects has been to protect and rehabilitate the Chain of Ponds by doing works in the following priority areas.
- Lower Perry River
- Upper Perry River
- Providence Ponds
- Sandy Creek
- Middle Creek
- California Creek
- Paisley Creek
- Fiddlers Creek
Works include fencing, revegetation, erosion and weed control to protect and restore the health of the ponds.
Morning tea will be available from 9:45am and lunch will be provided. Please RSVP by Monday 3 October to receptionwgcma@wgcma.vic.gov.au or call 1300 094 262. Please notify me of any dietary requirements.
