Latrobe City Council encourages community to connect through culture and recognise Cultural Diversity Week
Latrobe City Council is encouraging the community to connect through culture this week to recognise Cultural Diversity Week.
Mayor of Latrobe City, Cr Kellie O'Callaghan said, "We are proud of our diverse community who make us who we are. Cultural Diversity Week is a chance to reflect and consider how we can work together to make Latrobe City a welcoming home for all. This is an important part of council's broader commitment to enable and welcome the ongoing contribution of people from culturally diverse backgrounds in enriching our community."
The Action Plan helps to raise awareness of the need to ensure Latrobe City keeps up with local demographics and other changing needs in our emerging communities
Eat it session
Cr O'Callaghan also said, "Latrobe City Council's Cultural Diversity Action Plan 2020-2024 aims to raise awareness of the need to ensure Latrobe City keeps up with local demographics and other changing needs in our community and our emerging communities."
A highlight of the week will be the Eat It! session hosted by the:
- Moe Library
- Saturday 26 March
- 12.30 to 2.30pm
The session is a chance for young people aged between 12 and 25 to enjoy a menu of food from across the world in a relaxed social environment. Hosted in partnership with the Centre for Multicultural Youth and Latrobe Youth Space, the lunch is free to participate with 50 places available. Bookings can be made via Eventbrite website.
Story time sessions
Latrobe City Libraries will also host special cultural diversity Week story time sessions during the week at the following times:
- Moe Library: Wednesdays and/or Fridays 11am
- Morwell Library: Tuesdays and/or Fridays 10.30am
- Traralgon Library: Tuesdays and/or Thursdays 10.30am
Latrobe leisure team members will be wearing a touch of orange on Harmony Day (21 March) and encouraging patrons to do the same in support of the day. More information and resources about cultural diversity in Latrobe City can be found on the council's cultural diversity page.
