We are looking to you, our community, to make the final decision on which artists will be given the opportunity to transform the Leongatha Railway Precinct Site. Turning the plain grey rear facade of the Bair Street shops into a captivating art installation. The Leongatha Railway Precinct is a historic site, originally built in the late 1800s and used as a train station until the early 1990s.
Concepts for the proposed mural designs will be coming from artists Ash Taylor, Yuria Okamura and Jack Rowland and Creature Creature and Jason Parker
Reviving railway precinct
Since closure of the railway line in 1993, the Precinct has been vacant and now is being transformed into a space for all to enjoy. This South Gippsland Shire Council project, which will be managed by Arts Eleven, will transform the blank canvas of the railway precinct into a vibrant masterpiece that will capture the imagination of residents and visitors alike.
As part of the Leongatha Railway Precinct redevelopment, the South Gippsland Arts Advisory Committee, Arts Eleven and council's Art Development Officer have narrowed down the extremely competitive list of interested artists down to just three.
Their concepts have been developed in response to the brief provided and reflect a diverse range of styles, themes and artistic expressions. Now it is up to the residents of South Gippsland and surrounding areas to make their voices heard and choose the artist/s who will bring the Leongatha Railway Precinct to life. Find out more and vote at Leongatha Railway Precinct Mural page.
