Life Saving Victoria urges Gippslanders to stay safe this Australia Day weekend and swim at patrolled beaches and be water-wise

Life Saving Victoria urges water safety this Australia Day. Swim at patrolled beaches, supervise children, and check Beachsafe. Rescue teams will support beachgoers as temperatures soar to 40 degrees.

Life Saving Victoria (LSV ) is urging the community to take care in, on and around water during the upcoming Australia Day Long Weekend, as temperatures are forecast to soar to around 40 degrees. The risk of drowning in Victorian waterways roughly doubles on public holidays, so members of the public are encouraged to remain vigilant to keep their loved ones, friends and themselves safe.

Safe swimming zone

People are encouraged to swim at patrolled locations between the red and yellow flags where possible, always swim with a friend, supervise children at all times and check the Beachsafe app to find a safe place to swim. The Westpac Lifesaver Rescue Helicopter, Rescue Water Craft and Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems teams will also be deployed to protect beachgoers.

Who: Volunteer lifesavers and senior Life Saving Victoria personnel. The Westpac Life Saving Rescue Helicopter will also be on hand with Rescue Water Craft and Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems drones for visuals.
