Over $270,000 of federal funding for indigenous projects in East Gippsland
Three Indigenous programs in East Gippsland will benefit from funding as part of the Federal Government's Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
Local MP Darren Chester said Gippsland And East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-Operative Limited, Lake Tyers Health & Children's Services Association Inc and Moogji Aboriginal Council East Gippsland Inc would share in over $270,000 of funding.
The Indigenous Advancement Strategy (IAS) is aimed at improving the lives and outcomes for Indigenous Australians by creating jobs, land and economy, children and schooling, safety and wellbeing
Supporting local jobs
Mr Chester said, "These programs are focussed on supporting the education and wellbeing of Indigenous children in our community. The funding will help these organisations deliver successful early childhood, school, training and safety and wellbeing services." Projects in East Gippsland include:
- Boorai Supported Playground
- Gippsland And East Gippsland Aboriginal Co-Operative Limited - $140,000
- Lake Tyers Early Learning Centre Transition Made Easy
- Lake Tyers Health & Children's Services Association Inc - $32,516 Youth Project
- Moogji Aboriginal Council East Gippsland Inc - $100,000
Mr Chester said the funding also supported local jobs in East Gippsland.
Supporting the indigenous community
Mr Chester said, "Providing financial support for these programs ensures that the organisations can support the communities and also their staff. These projects will continue to support the Indigenous community and improve early outcomes for Indigenous children in Gippsland." Five programs in Gippsland received funding under the Federal Government's Indigenous Advancement Strategy.
