New emergency plan boosts resilience, preparedness, and shared responsibility across East Gippsland's community

East Gippsland has adopted a new three-year emergency management plan, strengthening shared responsibility, resilience, and collaboration across communities, agencies, and government to better prepare for and respond to future emergencies.

Last month, the East Gippsland Municipal Emergency Management Plan was officially approved by East Gippsland Shire Council's Regional Emergency Management Planning Committee (REMPC). This crucial step strengthens the region's commitment to a collaborative, integrated approach to emergency management.

Control agencies such as CFA, DEECA and VicSES regularly support and share resources during the response phase of emergencies as do support agencies in accordance with predetermined capability and capacity

Resilient communities together

This three-year plan, focusing on 'All Communities - all emergencies' incorporates valuable learnings from the devastating 2019 - 2020 Black Summer bushfires. While aligning with Emergency Management Victoria, the East Gippsland Municipal Emergency Management Planning Committee (EGMEMPC) recognises the vital importance of shared responsibility.

By embracing shared responsibility, we build stronger, more resilient communities where everyone is engaged, informed, and ready to act. Through collaboration, our communities recover faster, are better prepared for future challenges, and help minimise the impact of emergencies - creating safer, more connected environments for all.

The plan reflects the ongoing collaboration of a diverse range of agencies, departments, industries, businesses, and all levels of government. Together, we strive to establish a sustainable and efficient emergency management system that reduces the likelihood, impact, and consequences of emergencies in East Gippsland.
