Tim Bull warns of new VEU banning telemarketing from 1 May and door knocking from 1 August 2024 without consent
Tim Bull, Member for Gippsland East, warns about new bans under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program: telemarketing from May 1 and door knocking from August 1, unless prior consent is given.
The Nationals' Member for Gippsland East, Tim Bull, is urging the public to be aware of new bans on telemarketing and door knocking under the Victorian Energy Upgrades (VEU) program. Starting from May 1, 2024, unsolicited telemarketing calls related to the VEU program were prohibited, followed by a ban on door knocking from August 1, 2024. These measures are designed to ensure that consumers are not disturbed by unwanted marketing efforts.
From August, door knocking will be banned without consent. Other telemarketing purposes, like recalls or appointments, remain allowed
Consent required marketing
Effective from May, telemarketing calls under the VEU program are only allowed if consumers have given prior consent. From August, door knocking for marketing or promoting upgrades under the VEU program will be banned unless prior consent is given. Telemarketing calls will still be allowed for other purposes, including notifying consumers of a product recall or fault or booking an appointment for an upgrade.
"With the cost-of-living crisis hitting all families, there are many operators taking advantage of this, so please be vigilant. If you receive an unsolicited phone call or visit, you are encouraged to report the incident to the Essential Services Commission."
"These bans are a crucial step in safeguarding our community's privacy and ensuring that our residents are not subjected to intrusive and unwanted marketing practices," Mr Bull said. For further information on the new bans or to report a violation, contact the Essential Services Commission on (03) 9032 1310 or at Victorian Energy Upgrades website.
