Stories to tell

Latrobe City Council Mayor, Cr Sharon Gibson said that the rich history, diverse townships and resilient communities are fertile ground for fiction. "We want stories that use Latrobe City's farming land, industrial landscape, small townships or thriving cosmopolitan town centres as settings."

"We want stories that reflect Latrobe City's past and present, its people, the culture and spirit of our region, maybe even a vision for the future of Latrobe City. Any genre is welcome, as long as it is fiction and puts Latrobe City in the spotlight," she said.

Winning prize

There is a prize of $500 for the winner and runners-up will be awarded certificates. Independent book shop Reader's Emporium will print an anthology of the winning and shortlisted stories. "Our library collection contains a wide range of items that may help you with your research and writing. Why not visit your local branch or our website for inspiration?" Cr Gibson said.

Guidelines and entry forms are available at all library branches or can be downloaded from the library website. Stories should be fiction and must not be more than 3000 words. Entries can be submitted via the library website or emailed to library@latrobe.vic.gov.au. Entries close 27 August 2021. Find out more at power of words.
