South Gippsland Community Leadership Program participants connect and begin project planning
Participants in the Community Leadership Program connect with leaders, reflect on teamwork and begin project planning for future sessions.
On Thursday 16 March, the latest intake of the Community Leadership Program had their first opportunity to connect with each other, councillors, South Gippsland Shire Council Chief Executive Officer Kerryn Ellis and other council staff. Participants heard from Chief Executive Officer Kerryn Ellis, Deputy Mayor Clare Williams who is also a participant from the past of the Program, and Community Leadership Program alumni Jen Young. All speakers reflected on the importance of the program and the fantastic opportunity it provides for leaders across South Gippsland.

Teamwork, planning, and projects
Saturday 18 March saw participants have their first session, which was led by Peter Canny from El Camino at the historic Jeetho Hall. This session was all about teamwork - reflecting on what teams they have been part of that worked well and also formed their project groups.
The next session will be held in Port Welshpool and will focus on project planning, further refining their project groups and begin considering what project they would like to work on together.
Empowering through leadership
Renae Littlejohn, Acting Chief Executive Officer of South Gippsland Shire Council said, "The launch evening was a fantastic celebration of our newest intake for the Community Leadership Program and overview of what the Program entails. There is something energising about getting a group of people together in a room who share a passion for our region. I wish our new intake all the best and look forward to joining in on some of the sessions later."
Cr Nathan Hersey, Mayor of South Gippsland Shire Council said, "Council sees the importance of ensuring members of our community are equipped for leadership and are given the tools to give back to the community. I am looking forward to seeing what each participant takes from this experience. Being a leader requires broad skills and the Community Leadership Program is a terrific place for participants to develop the necessary skills, along with others from South Gippsland."
