Tom McIntosh welcomes Tiny Towns Fund, delivering big boost to East Gippsland with six community projects funded

Six East Gippsland projects will share in Tiny Towns Fund grants, boosting local facilities, jobs, and tourism, as part of the Allan Labor government's $45 billion investment in regional Victoria.

The Allan Labor government is making East Gippsland's tiniest towns better places to live, work, stay and play, by investing in new community-building projects through the Tiny Towns Fund. Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh today welcomed the news that six East Gippsland projects would be included in round two of the fund.

East Gippsland Shire Council and Jane Davidson Association receive $50,000 each; Bairnsdale Speedway gets $5,600 for outdoor tables from Tiny Towns grants

Tiny towns boost

The grants of between $5,000 and $50,000 will help local communities across Victoria flourish, and in many cases, support local workers during project development. $50,000 has been allocated to the Benambra Memorial Rec Reserve, for facility upgrades to the Benambra Caravan Park to help attract and serve visitors.

Further grants of $50,000 will go to the East Gippsland Shire Council for the Johnsonville Community Playspace, and the Jane Davidson Association for the Jane Davidson Toilet Block in Buchan. The Bairnsdale Speedway will receive $5,600 for community outdoor tables, helping make the speedway a better place to watch racing.

The fund is a part of the Labor government's record $45 billion investment over the past decade in projects and programs that support regional and rural Victoria. For more information about the Tiny Towns Fund, visit Regional Development Victoria website.

Investing in communities

Minister for Regional Development Jaclyn Symes said, "Rural and Regional Victoria has so much to offer, which is why we're continuing to support projects that enhance our tiniest towns, strengthen community connections and encourage more visitors to all corners of the state."

"The Tiny Towns Fund is refreshing community halls, creating new walking tracks, upgrading local sporting facilities and boosting the regional art scene, making our smallest towns great places to live, work, stay and play," he said.

Backing tiny towns

Member for Eastern Victoria Tom McIntosh said, "I grew up in a tiny regional Victorian town, and you see just how hard volunteers work to make these such incredible places - and I'm pleased to see them supported."

Bairnsdale Speedway Sponsorship and Fundraising Manager Phil Wright said, "As a community-based sporting club we are thrilled to have been granted funds through the Tiny Town grant round two which will allow us to install 10 picnic tables at our facility. This grant will enable us to deliver a more pleasant experience for our visitors both local and tourists that visit our town."

"The tables will allow for all members of our community whether local or visitors to our area as participants, spectators, or volunteers, our aim is to make their visit to our facility as pleasant as possible, and to encourage them to visit our region again," he said.
