Mobile Service Centre is headed to South Gippsland, offering a convenient way to access key services in September
South Gippsland Shire Council project updates and other council programs.
The Australian Government Mobile Service Centre is coming to South Gippsland. The bus is designed to assist you with services including Centrelink, Medicare, Child Support and the Australian Taxation Office. You will be able to visit the mobile centre for face-to-face and self-service support at the following locations:
- Toora - 4 September from 9.00am to 4.00pm
- Foster - 5 September from 9.00am to 4.00pm
- Fish Creek - 6 September from 9.00am to 4.00pm
- Meeniyan - 9 September from 9.00am to 4.00pm
- Mirboo North - 10 September from 9.00am to 4.00pm
- Leongatha - 11 September from 9.00am to 4.00pm
- Loch - 12 September from 9.00am to 2.00pm

Community busses
There are a number of community busses operating in South Gippsland to help better connect our community to essential services. Thanks to Gippsland Southern Health Service and Leongatha Community House, there is now a free shuttle bus operating back and forth from Leongatha to Korumburra.

Victorian transmission plan
VicGrid is seeking community feedback on their Transmission Plan Guidelines. A scheduled session in Foster at the War Memorial Arts Centre will be happening Thursday 22 August between 4.00pm and 7.00pm.
There is also an opportunity to provide feedback about the study area to help identify any sites within it that you believe should be protected, avoided, prioritised for investigation, or any other concerns that should be considered. We strongly encourage our community to have a read and provide feedback at the VicGrid Engagement website.

Councillor code of conduct
Local Government Victoria is seeking your views on the development of a Model Councillor Code of Conduct and mandatory training for councillors, mayors and deputy mayors. Consultation is now open for feedback on the draft:
- Model Councillor Code of Conduct
- Internal Resolution Procedure
- Training Outline for Mandatory Induction Training, Mayoral Training and Professional Development Training
Feedback and examples are sought on whether any additional matters should be included and whether any content should be removed or revised. Submissions close Wednesday 4 September.. Port Welshpool Harbour
Port Welshpool Harbour, managed by Gippsland Ports, is a vital maritime hub in South Gippsland, supporting both commercial and recreational boating. Key activities include trade with King and Flinders Islands, refuelling around 250 vessels annually and providing berthing for about 30 commercial vessels. The harbour also offers vessel access, refuge, maintenance, and repair services.
Due to ageing infrastructure and changing needs, Gippsland Ports has developed a draft Local Port Area Plan under the Victorian Government's Sustainable Local Ports Framework. This plan aims to enhance safety and accessibility, considering climate change impacts, asset conditions, coastal processes and future usage. Community feedback is sought to ensure the plan meets local needs. Feedback closes Wednesday 4 September. National Science Week Talks
Celebrate National Science Week with Milpara Community House. They are hosting chats with local zoologist Alona Chuvari, botanist Kate Bennetts and Arawata Landcare secretary Jo Sapir. They will present interesting and inspiring talks on their field of expertise. This will be followed by screenings of Science and Nature themed films. This is a free event; however, spots are limited so please register your attendance on National Science Week Talks 2024 website.
Casting Off
Casting Off is an acrobatic comedy coming to South Gippsland this month. Described as a funny and uplifting conversation between three generations, Casting Off is a must-see! The trio will be taking over the Mirboo and Strzelecki Hall's on Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 August.
Talented local singer-songwriter Aeroforms will support Casting Off on Saturday, and local band The Stony Six will accompany them on Sunday. For tickets and more details, please head to Regional Arts Victoria website.

The Sound of Silent
Old-style cinema meets live jazz. The Sounds of Silent are a five-piece ensemble featuring some of Melbourne's most versatile and accomplished musicians. Recreating the silent movie experience from the 1920s and 30s, this time 'Circus' by Charlie Chaplin, they blend that with improvised performances featuring music that was in style during that period.
The event is a vibrant and entertaining musical and movie event for the whole family. The Sound of Silent will be bringing their lively sound to the Bena, Mirboo North and Welshpool Hall. To buy your tickets, head to The Sound of Silent gigs.

FireWise Planting
Reduce the risk of fire near your property at South Gippsland Landcare Networks FireWise Whole Farm Planning of South Gippsland Farmer event. This four-part workshop will be taking place every Thursday from 29 August to 19 September. Multispecies coaching project
South Gippsland Landcare Network is running a multispecies coaching project from September 2024 to September 2025. Multispecies specialist Jade Killoran will provide support for sowing two crops: Spring/Summer 2024 and Autumn/Winter 2025.
Participants will attend field days and workshops before each crop, with the first in late September to early October 2024 and the second in February and March 2025. There will be three online sessions and an online chat group for further advice and sharing.

Country Football and Netball
The Country Football and Netball Program provides funding to Local Government Authorities to help regional football and netball clubs, associations and umpiring organisations to upgrade and develop facilities in rural, regional and outer metropolitan locations.
