Feedback on Local Law review from community from Bass Coast Shire Council
Bass Coast Shire Council is calling on the community to provide their feedback on the Draft Local Law No. 1 Neighbourhood Amenity 2022.
Bass Coast Shire Council's Local Law No.1 Neighbourhood Amenity 2012 is due to expire this July. Officers have reviewed the current Local Law, which has involved consultation with teams across council, key stakeholders and the community. Through this review, council has identified opportunities to simplify, strengthen and expand the new Local Law so that it continues to meet the needs of the Bass Coast community.
The Local Law must be reviewed every 10 years, to identify what is working well in our current local law, any gaps in the legislation and to address new and emerging issues
Local law purpose
The draft Local Law covers a wide range of clauses including animal management, use of council land, domestic waste, protection of public assets and enhancing neighbourhood amenity. A significant proposed change to the new Local Law is the inclusion of a section relating to Short Stay Accommodation. Previously, council registered Holiday Homes under The Public Health and Wellbeing Act (2008).
The purpose of the proposed new Short Stay Rental Accommodation Local Law provision is to:
- Regulate the control and use of short stay rental accommodation
- Ensure an appropriate standard of management of such accommodation
- Minimise the risk of such accommodation affecting the peace of neighbours
- Implement a registration and renewal requirement of such accommodation
- Set a 'maximum stay' duration for customers
- Ensure that waste is managed to protect the environment that visitors come to enjoy
Council will also facilitate a number of drop-in sessions for community members to provide their feedback in person. These will be held at the following locations:
- Inverloch Community Hub - Friday, 27 May from 10.30am to12.30pm
- Old Post Office - Watt Street Wonthaggi - Tuesday, 31 May from 2.00pm to 4.00pm
- Newhaven Visitors Centre - Meeting Room - Thursday, 2 June 5.00pm to 7.00pm
