Sustainability festival support presented by Bass Coast Landcare Network.
Bass Coast Shire Council is supporting this year's Sustainability Festival, currently being presented by the Bass Coast Landcare network until Sunday, 5 December. In 2019, Council declared a climate emergency and as a result of this declaration, adopted a 10-year Climate Change Action Plan in May 2021.

Responding to climate change
Bass Coast Shire Mayor, Cr Brett Tessari said, "As an organisation, we are working really hard to make small, but meaningful changes to respond to our changing climate and the challenges that brings," "It's great to see our Infrastructure Maintenance Team leading the way in this department."
"The changes that the Team have made to their equipment not only improve energy efficiency, but also help to improve safety and environmental outcomes." Some of the changes the Team has made include the introduction of electric chainsaws and small tools, which are less noisy.
"This not only improves the amenity for the community but protects our people in the field from the impacts of industrial noise," Cr Tessari said.
Energy efficient equipment upgrade
As part of the action plan, council has committed to producing zero net emissions by 2030 and as part of this, it's Infrastructure Maintenance Team has been upgrading to more energy efficient equipment. The most recent innovation has been the purchase of an e-Bike for Council officers to use when inspecting the parks, gardens and trails throughout Bass Coast, saving wear and tear on vehicles, reducing costs and saving time.
