Bass Coast Shire Council continues $205,000 renewal of Grantville seawall
Further works will be carried out to renew the seawall at the end of Pier Road in Grantville, as part of Bass Coast Shire Council's Capital Works Program.
Construction works have begun, with the project expected to take around six weeks to complete, subject to weather, tides and contractor availability. This $205,000 project is fully funded by council. For safety reasons, the car park and boat ramp will be closed while construction is underway. The boat ramp at Corinella provides the closest water access for boaters.
For safety reasons, this section of the seawall and boat ramp area will be a construction zone and appropriate traffic and pedestrian measures will be in place throughout the duration of the works
Seawall improvements
The seawall offers protection from wave erosion, to important public assets including the nearby foreshore picnic and barbecue area, grassed open space and public car parking. The existing concrete seawall is ageing and over time, has suffered damage from wave action.
In January this year, works were completed to repair part of the seawall and improve the beach access steps. A new beach shower was installed and landscaping with native plants was also completed. The current works will finalise the construction and extension of the seawall, to include protection of the boat ramp.
The works will include the use of large plants and machinery and might be noisy at times. Council understands that these works may present an inconvenience to nearby residents and appreciates their patience during these times. The contractor will make every effort to minimise disruptions during construction.
