Restarting arts festivals in West and South Gippsland with Festivals Australia federal program

Program that supports community participation in, and access to, the arts experience at a festival.

The local arts and cultural sector in Monash is set to be reignited, with 25 projects awarded a share of more than $870,000, in the latest round of the Morrison Government's Festivals Australia program.

Celebrating cultural projects

Minister for Communications, Urban Infrastructure, Cities and the Arts, the Hon Paul Fletcher MP, said the Festivals Australia program celebrates cultural projects and helps make them available to regional audiences across the country.

Minister Fletcher said, "The latest round of funding will support 25 diverse spanning music, theatre and visual arts - a strong reflection on Australia's diverse arts sector which will help attract tourists and bring communities together,"

"We know that regional and remote artists, organisations and communities have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is why we're continuing to deliver record financial assistance to support their recovery."

Supporting visual artists

Federal Member for Monash, Russell Broadbent said that the Round 12 funding will provide critical support for local artists, and assist local communities and economies to restart from the pandemic.

"I'm pleased to announce that Ms Danielle Sheehan has received $34,100 for the Fish Parade at the Fish Creek Carnival through Round 12 of the Festivals Australia program," Mr Broadbent said.

"This project will fund visual artists, musicians and professional acrobats to collaborate with the community to prepare costumes, floats, music and circus performances for a parade through the town."

Community engaged event

The Morrison Government is investing more than $1 billion into the arts and creative sector through a diverse range of programs in 2021-22. The Festivals Australia program supports arts projects that invite community participation and audience engagement at festivals across the country.
