The Lemon Hill Gallery at Wairewa recovers from Black Summer bushfires and back to supporting local artists

A gallery at Wairewa is giving local artists a chance to exhibit their work as the region recovers from the Black Summer bushfires.

"Out of the ashes of the Black Summer bushfires, some truly beautiful things have emerged which reveal an enormous amount of the community spirit in our region. The Lemon Hill Gallery is one of those 'beautiful things'. Mr Chester said.

Bringing community together

Mr Chester said, "Elizabeth and Brian Blakeman's property at Wairewa was severely impacted by the fires and although they saved their home, many treasured possessions were lost. The fires were devastating for many families in Wairewa, near Nowa Nowa."

"To bring the tiny community together and help with the ongoing recovery, the couple has established an art gallery in a shipping container at 158 Lemon Hill Rd, Wairewa." Mr Chester continued.

Story of resilience in a perfect setting

The gallery is free and it opens to the public each Sunday between 2-5pm. The exhibitions change every four weeks and the pieces are available to purchase directly from the artist - there's no commission charged.

"Lemon Hill Gallery celebrates creativity, resourcefulness and the human spirit and it tells a story of resilience in a perfect setting, on top of a hill with a magnificent view of the Wairewa valley and state forest. Thank you Elizabeth and Brian for your generosity, and thank you to the artists for exhibiting their work." Mr Chester said.
