Feedback on new plans for Surf Parade shared path at Inverloch due by 8 October 2023

The Bass Coast Shire Council is seeking community input on two options for the final stage of the Surf Parade shared path in Inverloch, prioritising coastal erosion mitigation and preserving vegetation.

Bass Coast Shire Council is seeking community feedback on new plans for the final stage of the Surf Parade shared path at Inverloch, as efforts continue to minimise coastal erosion. Council has released two options for Stage 3b of the path, which has been earmarked to continue from Ozone Street and finish at Goroke Street near the Surf Lifesaving Club.

Please choose your preference of one of the options to allow for the provision of a 2.5 metre wide shared pathway: option 1, one-way with parking or option 2, two-way without parking

Surf Parade path options

The first option allows for parking and one-way westbound traffic on Surf Parade, while the second option retains a two-way traffic flow without provision for parking. Stage 3b is the final stage of the Surf Parade shared path, which would provide a link to Wonthaggi and Inverloch shared path.

Bass Coast Mayor Michael Whelan said council had worked up two new options for the Surf Parade shared path, which ensured that vegetation along the vulnerable coastline remained. "The Inverloch coast has been exposed to extensive erosion and the council, along with the state government, is working to manage the impact of these losses. This means that removing vegetation to extend the area and allow for a path, parking and two-way traffic is no longer viable," Cr Whelan said.

Community input needed

Cr Whelan also said, "Council has now drawn up two new options for this stretch of the Surf Parade shared path and would like to hear from the community about their visions and preferences for the area."

"Council is committed to providing walking and cycling trails, like the Surf Parade shared path, to provide opportunities for our residents and visitors to live active, healthy and happy lives in one of the best parts of Victoria," Cr Whelan said.

Council will host two community drop-in sessions to gauge feedback on the design options. Sessions will be held at the Inverloch Community Hub on Thursday, September 28 from 12.30pm to 2.30pm or Tuesday, October 3 from 10am to 12pm.
