Plan to improve

Sale's Greenwattle Racecourse is renowned as one of the best tracks in regional Victoria and there's plans to improve facilities for race-goers in the future. Mr Chester said, "I caught up with Sale Turf Club - Horse Racing & Functions Venue CEO Brad Evans who explained the need to improve access for people with all abilities, and to keep updating the course for families on race days, and other community events."

One piece of exciting news is the announcement that Sale Turf Club will host a race meeting on Good Friday next year, subject to State Parliament approval. The plans are well advanced to ensure the religious significance of the day is respected, with racing to start in the early afternoon, and fundraising activities for the Good Friday Appeal.

Hosting the inaugural meeting

Sale was chosen to host the inaugural meeting by Racing Victoria and Country Racing Victoria to effectively launch the initiative which will see the race meeting rotate through regional tracks each year. The concept will launch the long weekend and encourage visitors to attend the race meeting, and then stay to explore the region's other attractions.

Whether you are a punter or not, a day at the races is a lot of fun and I'm looking forward to crowds returning soon. The racing industry supports hundreds of jobs in training, racing, course preparation, hospitality, animal husbandry and much more across Gippsland.
