Nominations are open for the 2025 Baw Baw Shire Australia Day Awards, celebrating local legends. Recognize individuals and groups contributing to the community in various fields like arts, sports, and environment.
Do you know a local legend deserving of recognition? Nominations are now open for the 2025 Baw Baw Shire Australia Day Awards. These awards aspire to acknowledge and thank the unsung individuals and groups who make Baw Baw Shire a better place.
Nominations for the 2025 Australia Day Awards is now open and will be closed at 12.00pm midday on Friday 22 November 2024
Award categories
Community members are encouraged to nominate those who have made outstanding contributions in areas such as arts and culture, sport and recreation, business, the environment or any other area that contributes to the advancement and wellbeing of our community.
Nominations can be made in four categories:
Citizen of the Year
An individual who demonstrates hard work, dedication and provides a significant contribution to the community in the current year or over a number of years. They demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and/or are a role model for their community members or organisations; or excel in one of the areas of arts or culture, sport and recreation, business, the environment or community service.
Young Citizen of the Year
An individual who is 25 years of age or under who demonstrates hard work, dedication and provides a significant contribution to the community in the current year or over a number of years. They demonstrate outstanding leadership skills and/or are a role model for their community members or organisations; or excel in one of the areas of arts or culture, sport and recreation, business, the environment or community service.
Community Organisation of the Year
An organisation or group who has performed outstanding community service in the current year or over a number of years; and has demonstrated that they meet a community need or priority; and operates within the municipality.
Community Event of the Year
A not-for-profit group or organisation who has coordinated and delivered a community event with significant impact, held within the municipality during the past year.
How to nominate
Nominations are now open and will close at 12.00pm (midday) on Friday 22 November 2024. Nominations can be made online via a short submission form on council's website at Australia Day Awards. Hard copy nomination forms are also available for completion at council's Customer Service Centre's in Warragul and Drouin.
When submitting a nomination, community members must provide responses to various questions relating to the recipient including, demonstration of qualities that make them stand out, details of their contributions and the positive impact they've made to the local community.
Each recipient nomination will be considered and assessed against eligibility criteria by a panel consisting of the mayor, councillors and council officers who will select the most outstanding nominee in each category. Award winners will be announced at the Australia Day Awards Ceremony to be held in January 2025. To learn more and to nominate, please visit the 2025 Australia Day Awards website.
