A new online water trading platform will provide Macalister Irrigation District with access to manage water sales and trades. Through the purpose-built platform customers can trade water shares, sell unused water entitlements, or buy water entitlements needed for seasonal operations.
Customers can trade, buy, and sell water entitlements 24/7, with support from Water Partners, a non-profit water trader. This platform is a pilot program with potential for future expansion
Water trading benefits
Southern Rural Water's Manager Water Supply Matt Cook said water trading is essential for agricultural operations. "This new platform provides our customers with access to trade rooms that operate 24/7. Customers follow a straightforward process and can expect a swift turnaround, as well as over-the-phone support during business hours," Matt said.
The water trading platform and support service is provided through community-owned Water Partners, a non-profit water trader. The platform is a pilot program. If successful, Southern Rural Water may look at further opportunities to expand the platform to more customer groups in the future.
