Morwell Centenary Rose Garden festival back in the limelight as part of international festival
Escape the indoors and get back to nature at the stunning Morwell Centenary Rose Garden during this year's International Rose Garden Festival.
With COVID restrictions gradually easing Latrobe City Council is encouraging people from near and far to stop in and smell the roses at the 13th to the 21st of November event in the heart of Morwell. Among the highlights of this year's festival are a daily lighting display from 7.30pm to 10.30pm complemented by roving performances and pop-up attractions supported by AGL Loy Yang.
People are invited to walk through the rose garden and along Commercial Road to find all the lights as part of this year's extended lighting footprint
Event to support local community
AGL Loy Yang General Manager Christo van Niekerk said AGL was delighted to be supporting the regional event again, showcasing the Morwell Centenary Rose Garden and the beautiful Latrobe Valley region. "We know that local businesses and the community have faced a challenging 18 months due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic," Mr van Niekerk said.
"As restrictions ease, this event supports our local community by lifting their spirits and providing a safe place to come together. We encourage everyone to stroll through the colourful creativity of our AGL Loy Yang Night Lights Installation; you will not be disappointed." Mr Niekerk said.
Internationally-renowned attraction preserved
Mr van Niekerk commended the event organisers and the fantastic Friends of the Rose Garden volunteers who have dedicated their time to preserving the internationally-renowned attraction. Other attractions include lanterns and flower making workshops and activations in the Tarwin Street event space and a cut rose competition.
Latrobe City Mayor Sharon Gibson said, "If you haven't been to the festival in the past three years you are truly missing out on a magical experience; the event continues to grow in size and popularity, attracting locals, visitors and a global online audience. We hope to attract people of all walks of life to take a stroll and enjoy the wonders of the garden, expertly maintained and presented by the Friends of the Rose Garden volunteers."
Visitors will be required to book a one hour viewing session for the light show via eventbrite prior to visiting the garden due to COVID restrictions and must be fully vaccinated (aged 16 and up) to attend. Video content including a virtual tour of the garden is available on the website.
