The 2024 South Gippsland Australia Day Awards are now open. The awards provide an opportunity to recognise residents who make a significant contribution to our region and to acknowledge and celebrate their achievements. There are three award categories:
- Citizen of the Year
- Young Citizen of the Year (12 to 25 years)
- Community Event of the Year
To nominate a South Gippsland resident who has made an exceptional contribution to our community this year for a Citizen of the Year or Young Citizen of the Year award, simply complete a nomination form online outlining how your nominee has contributed to the local community and what makes them a worthy award recipient.

Nominating an event for Community Event of the Year is similar. In this category you need to outline the purpose of the event, the benefit to the community and key outcomes. It's a great way for the community to recognise and celebrate our much-valued events, and showcase the positive impact it has had on their local community.
Nominees in all categories will be celebrated at an Australia Day Awards event at 6.30pm on Wednesday 17 January, 2024 at the Meeniyan Town Hall. Nominations close 8 November 2023 and can be submitted at Australia Day Awards - Nominations page.
Cr Nathan Hersey, Mayor South Gippsland Shire Council said, "South Gippsland Australia Day Awards are a great way to recognise people for their contribution to our community. Volunteering is strong in South Gippsland and we have many people who work tirelessly for the success of local committees, events, festivals, sporting groups and clubs. These awards are a small way of letting them know that we see their hard work and we appreciate it."
