Police investigating a house fire at Loch Sport on the Gippsland coast have found a body in the ruins.

The Victoria Street residence was destroyed by the fire and a man in his 60s was later found a short distance away with severe burns.

He was treated at the scene by ambulance officers before being flown to Melbourne where he remains in a critical condition.
