Gippsland › Latest news › Latrobe Local NewsMonash University Weekly BulletinAll of the news for the week of Monday, October 14, 2002 Mark the calendarProfessor Carol Adams, Head, Faculty of Business & Economics at the Gippsland Campus will be guest speaker at the Australian Institute of Management Gippsland Branch, 14th Annual Joint Management Lecture to be held on Tuesday, October 15 in the Faculty of Business & Economics Conference Centre at 6pm. Professor Adams will speak on ‘Corporate Social Responsibility & Triple Bottom Line Reporting – why your business should act responsibly’. Dr Gerald Acquaah-Gaisie will present the Business & Economics Staff Research Forum on Wednesday, October 16 at 1pm in the Business & Economics Conference Room. The topic will be ‘Minimising corporate collapses through greater shareholder activism’. The SHED Project: Working with men who have used abuse or violence at home is the topic to be covered by Chris Laming at the HUMCASS research forum on Thursday, 17 October at 1pm in the Link Room. Dr Barry Richardson, Psychology lecturer will be discussing the university’s new Cognitive Science unit at a conference in Madrid from 16-18 October. The first program for students who wish to be involved in the futuristic discipline will commence in January 2003. Access Education ‘End of Year Exam Revision Program 2002’ will be held at the Gippsland Campus on October 19 and 20. The VCE revision program helps students prepare for the upcoming VCE exams. Making the GradeLeah Mether, winner of the annual Lynne Harper Award for Journalism students, was presented with a $500 cheque on Wednesday, October 9 at the awards ceremony held at the Gippsland Campus of Monash University. Gippsland Writers’ Festival held on Sunday, 13 October in Stratford featured guest speaker Carolyn Landon. Carolyn is co-author of Jackson’s Track, Memoir of a Dreamtime Place who came to Australia from the USA in 1968 and has taught in Victorian schools. Carolyn is currently writing a memoir as well as a biography of an ordinary Australian who has led an extraordinary life while also studying for her Masters degree at Monash University Gippsland Campus. Open subjectCatherine Cochrane, Journalism student at the Gippsland Campus has been assisting with the Churchill & District Newspaper as part of her work experience. The launch of the redesigned newspaper will take place on Saturday, October 26 at the Glendonald Park, Churchill from 11.30am-1.30pm.
