McCartins Hotel is where GippsTAFE’s VET students develop the practical skills they are required to learn in their course, which also includes theory classes, field trips and excursions to Melbourne.
The Year 11 and 12 students, from secondary schools all over South Gippsland, work in the kitchen, waitressing and serving drinks at the bar.
GippsTAFE Leongatha Campus Coordinator John Cargill said "We really appreciate that the local industry is assisting in training students."
"We acknowledge the cooperation of McCartins Hotel for making those facilities available to the students."
Mr Cargill also said that next year GippsTAFE expects to offer an expanded range of VET courses next year and is on the lookout for other local employers.
"It’s a terrific program with great results!"
The Certificate II in Hospitality Operations covers topics such as working with colleagues and customers, hygiene procedures, food and beverage preparation, how to operate a bar, table service, organising and preparing food, presenting food, responsible serving of alcohol, cleaning and maintenance of premises.
