Gippsland's E-Commerce On The Rise

Local businesses get with the times and get online

By Emma Kae - 30th July 2002 - Back to News

As more and more consumers get online everyday to chat with friends, make important decisions about their future or simply do a little window shopping without the aching feet, it becomes obvious that the Internet is a logical and valuable way to get new and keep existing customers for your business.

Many Gippsland businesses have already seen the importance of embracing this new way of life for the Australian culture and are adapting e-commerce into their practices. For some, this is as simple as having an e-mail address, for others a simple listing on a larger, multi-faceted website and for the bold, a website of their own.

Two great examples of Gippsland Businesses getting with the times and getting online are MD Pictures and local artist Jenny Peterson of Park Road Studios.

The MD Pictures website is a simple yet effective design that allows the visitor to pinpoint the information that is of interest to them in just one click. Each page promotes what products and services the business has to offer you as a potential client. In addition to outlining the business functions, there is an "about us" page to give visitors further information about the company and its employees.

Every page is clear and concise, with the necessary information immediately presented neatly and professionally. The website was successful in making me consider contacting MD Pictures to see about having some work done. See it for yourself at: http://www.mdpictures.com.au/

The website for acclaimed local artist Jenny Peterson is clean and simple, consisting of only 5 pages – Home, Art Gallery, Gift Shop, Resume and Contact. The website is a place where visitors can learn more about Jenny, view a showcase of her artworks and even purchase individual pieces from the Gift Shop.

The template for the website includes a header and footer on each page with links to the other sections of the website. This allows you to jump from any one place to another in just one click.

The website also includes images of Jenny’s work – this element is very important on a website that is trying to sell products on their appearance and illustrate what the artist is capable of achieving.

In all, this is another great website that indicates Gippslanders are moving in the right direction. See it for yourself at: http://www.vic.australis.com.au/jjp/
