John Lenders, State Minister for Finance, last week. The Minister spoke to Councillors and senior staff on Friday 5 July at the Council Chambers in Wonthaggi.
Public liability insurance and its effect on community groups and small business was one of the issues that was discussed.
"Council also raised the issue of the rapid growth of the Shire," said Cr John Gains, Mayor of Bass Coast Shire Council. "In particular we spoke of the lack of funds for meeting increased needs for infrastructure and services."
Another of the subjects raised was the cost-shifting. Over the past five years there has been an increasing trend for state and federal levels of government to shift the cost of providing services to local governments.
