More than 40,000 new books will be available to public libraries across the State as a result of additional funding.
On Monday, (27 May 2002), the Member for Gippsland East, Craig Ingram, MLA, visited Wellington Library at Sale. Mr Ingram presented Wellington Mayor Malcolm Hole with a cheque for $19,000 to purchase new books and resources for the Shire’s libraries.
Wellington has an immensely busy library service that’s seen as key community facility for the Shire," said the Mayor.
"Staff at our six branch libraries dealt with 203,142 visitors across the shire last year, who borrowed 323,434 items.
"Clearly, this demonstrates a highly successful and popular library service that strives continually for improvement. Last year, we acquired 6,769 books and 777 audio-visual items
"This additional funding will help our libraries to provide additional loan items and resources for our very busy service."
Wellington Libraries currently hold 97,709 circulation items - books, videos, magazine issues, talking books on tape, picture books, available for loan.
