Changes for Preschool services in TraralgonBy Latrobe City Council - 5th September 2001 - Back to News Tell us your opinion See what others have said Latrobe City Group Manager Community Services, Jeff Marjoram, said today that a further reduction in preschool enrolments in Traralgon plus the establishment of a new Anglican preschool in Traralgon had meant that the kindergarten in Blundell Hall was to be placed in recess for the 2002 preschool year.
Mr Marjoram said that the six existing Latrobe City preschools would easily cope with expected numbers and that Council had guaranteed that all children would be able to gain a preschool place.
"Effectively, seven preschools will still remain in Traralgon, with Blundell Hall being placed into recess, and St Pauls Anglican Grammar Junior School Kindergarten opening. This is more than adequate to ensure that every child of preschool age has access to quality preschooling in Traralgon," Mr Marjoram said.
"I’m very pleased to announce that Blundell Hall’s Preschool Director, Marg Noone, has accepted a full time position at Cameron Street Preschool. We wish her every success in her new appointment. We also welcome St Pauls to Traralgon as an alternative choice for parents," Mr Marjoram said.
"Blundell Hall is leased from the Anglican Church and is the only Traralgon preschool not owned by Latrobe City Council. As one preschool needs to be placed into recess to reflect changing demographics and the advent of the new preschool at St Pauls, it is the logical choice of premises to be placed into recess.
"Parents who have nominated their children’s first preschool choice for 2001 as Blundell Hall have now been contacted, and we have extended an offer to them to reconsider choices for their children’s preschooling, whether it be to one of Latrobe City’s six other preschool centres in Traralgon, or St Pauls Anglican Grammar Junior School Kindergarten.
"In essence, we are keen to ensure that every family has the optimum choice of an alternative preschool for 2001 and that any transition is as smooth as possible," Mr Marjoram added.
