Sage Technology Revamps Its Image! Lynda Bertoli, Sage Technology's Managing Director An interview with Director Lynda Bertoli By Emma Kae - 9th April 2002 - Back to News As times and business conditions change, so must the businesses within them. What follows is an interview with one of the directors of Sage Technology, discussing the changes this business went through in order to update its corporate identity and get with the times.
What factors influenced the change from Sage Computer Support to Sage Technology? Our company is now 12 years old and has come a long way from when we started in 1990. (Whilst) we are still focused on providing high-quality, cost-effective solutions, we have grown from being a company that provides support for users and network infrastructure to one that uses our knowledge to develop solutions to our clients' business problems. We integrate systems, we develop and sell software and online products, we design network solutions, we analyse business / IT needs and manage projects - far more than just computer support. Our new trading name reflects that (while) our previous name and logo was limiting and outdated.
What do you feel will change within the company with the change of name (if anything)? This re-launch of our company also sees a significant structural re-organisation. I believe the change of image simply provides our company with a fresher, more expansive and up to date public face. (It) helps (to) position us for the expansion and growth that the restructure will deliver.
What do you feel has impacted the expansion of the services you offer clients (eg the increase in the use of information technologies in Gippsland Businesses, etc)? In our years of operation, we have witnessed the increasing importance of information technology tools within enterprises right across the board. The market offerings have evolved rapidly and business uptake has become increasingly sophisticated. In order to retain our relevance and add value to clients, we have had to develop a depth of technical skills, adopt best practice processes, extend our range of expertise (and) work with alliance partners.
Has the tagline for Sage Technology always been 'Its not just the knowing, it's the knowing how'? No, it used to be "making computers work for you". I think the new tagline is less limiting than the old one. The new one is about our company having the knowledge and skills to provide solutions to our clients' business problems. We did think about renaming the company Sage Technology Solutions, but a triple-barrelled name invariably gets shortened.
How do you feel this message relates to the renewed vision/mission for Sage Technology? Our vision is to be the pre-eminent provider of information technology solutions in our target market. Part of our mission statement includes - - (provision of) professional, high quality information technology consultancy, services and related smart business solutions to clients in regional and metropolitan Victoria; - (delivery of) niche solutions wherever the market opportunity is identified. I think the new tag line fits very well!
