Before the world of the internet took over and set a new lease of life into businesses, the trendy method of professional networking was through business cards.

Business cards are, of course, small cards with the organisations’ logo and contact details emblazoned on the front.

Serving as a means of promotion and a point of reference for the forgetful among us, business cards were an effective way of providing people with your contact details in the easiest way possible.

Now, as many businesses launch themselves solely on the virtual plateau with a range of consumers spread across the globe, the handshake-business-card-exchange is not as efficient as it used to be.

Implementing a signature file (SF) into your e-mail could be the solution you are after.

Working on the same principal as the traditional business card, a SF is a short text file which can be attached to your out-going e-mail messages.

SF’s are usually filled with the sender’s job title, contact details, a personal statement and sometimes even a short message about sponsors or promotions.

A SF can be added using most e-mail programs, and can be customised to your own liking. You can even set the attatchment properties to allow you to choose from several footnotes, to suit different e-mails.

The basic guidelines are to keep it short and sweet. As security over the internet is never 100%, make sure you do not include any confidential material, just in case it falls into the wrong hands.
