Summer is finally here – though you wouldn’t know it from the weather! With the holiday and (hopefully) hot season almost upon us, it’s time to check the safety of your swimming pool and spa. "All above ground as well as inground pool and spas must maintained at a safe standard, including adequate fencing," said Stephen Rosendale, Building Services Manager at Bass Coast Shire Council. "Over the past couple of years the State Government has introduced tougher pool and spa safety controls following an increased incidence of children drowning in private swimming pools," Stephen explained. "Council has plenty of information available for pool and spa owners about their obligations, people just need to give us a call," he said. "We’re happy to answer any questions." Stephen explained that fines might be issued for owners who do not comply with regulations. "What we would prefer is for people to comply with these obligations and protect their family’s and friend’s safety around pools and spas," he said.
