‘Celebrating Community Engagement’ is a unique workshop designed to provide an opportunity for people, communities, agencies and government to further develop partnerships and strategies for community engagement. To be held at Lakes Entrance on October 11-12, the conference will open with the launch of a documentary produced specifically for the conference, giving participants the chance to explore six case studies from select community groups from around South Eastern Australia. The conference is hosted by the Institute for Regional Studies at Monash University Gippsland Campus, together with the Gippsland Area Consultative Committee and the Department of Human Services. ‘Publish or Perish, Navigating the Publication Process’ is to be presented by Professor Wanger Kamakura, Duke University, North Carolina USA at the School of Business and Economics Academic Exchange Program on Thursday, September 29 at 1pm. Wagner has a strong background in the areas of quantitative analysis in marketing and also has a tremendously varied set of areas in which he publishes.

The unravelling of some of the complexities involved in online teaching will be discussed by Dr Monique Osborn and Carolyn Theodore at the Faculty of Education Research Seminar on October 5. The paper to be presented at the seminar, ‘Constructivist Online Pedagogy: The trials and tribulations of novices’, was written for the Australasian Association for Institutional Research Forum to be held in Melbourne in November 2005.

HUMCASS National Colloquium – City, Society and Self: A National Colloquium on the Chicago School of Sociology will be held on October 9 and 10. Various speakers will explore the tradition of Chicago sociology, the lasting impact of Chicago and its environ as a social laboratory, and some of the social, psychological, aesthetic and civic philosophies that grew out of the milieu of Chicago.

The Gippsland Campus October Graduation Ceremony will be held at the Binishell on Saturday, October 8 at 11am. The Occasional Address will be delivered by Ms Beatrice Faust AO MA Melb. TSTC Melb.Teach.Coll. All Faculties at the Gippsland Campus will be represented on the day.
