Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership will create regional centre in Moe for Gippsland

Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership expands with $33.8 million investment, opening 7 regional centres for high-quality professional learning.

Teachers and school leaders across Gippsland and Latrobe Valley will have access to world-class professional learning resources, with the state-wide expansion of the Victorian Academy of Teaching and Leadership. Seven new centres will open across the state after a $33.8 million investment by the Andrews Labor government to deliver the Academy to regional locations, with Moe the third centre to open after Geelong and Ballarat.

The Academy provides advanced professional learning for high-performing educators in Australian government, Catholic, and Independent schools

Expanding regional education

The initiative supports local teachers and school leaders across Gippsland and Latrobe Valley with a new hub now open to engage in development and training, offering a range of learning initiatives, programs and events dedicated to leadership and teaching excellence.

Regional centres have already opened in Geelong and Ballarat, with further regional centres to open in Bairnsdale, Bendigo, Mildura, and Shepparton. The headquarters of the Academy was opened in Melbourne early 2022.

Establishment of the seven regional centres is an important new service for rural and regional schools, offering local teachers the opportunity to collaborate, learn and develop new skills and educational approaches that translate to better learning outcomes for regional and rural kids.

Backing the needs of local school communities, each Academy will be supported by local teams and provide regional teachers the same high quality professional learning as the Academy's metropolitan counterpart. The Academy is an Australian-first and dedicated to delivering teaching excellence and advanced professional learning for high-performing teachers and school leaders in government, Catholic and Independent schools.

Minister for Education Natalie Hutchins said, "Every Victorian kid deserves the very best education, that's why we're backing local school leaders and

Our new regional Academy hubs are offering world-class teaching resources to schools across the state, ensuring regional and rural teachers have access to the best educator resources to deliver for local kids."
