Hay Hay It’s Saturday

Anyone with spare hay or fodder is being asked to donate a bale to feed stock left desperate as a result of the bushfires.

By Municipal Emergency Co-Ordination Centre - 21st December 2006 - Back to News

"We urgently need to feed cattle, sheep and horses on properties that have lost pasture and hay as a result of the fires," said police Senior Sgt Henry Van Andel who is helping to co-ordinate the relief effort in Gippsland.

"This is our ‘bale out a mate’ project," said Sgt Van Andel.

"The immediate goal is to get enough bales to keep stock alive while farmers make arrangements for the longer term future of their animals."

The Victorian Farmers Federation (VFF) is assisting with the relief effort and has organised a fodder donation line on 1300 882 833. All offers of donations can be made through this number.

Alternatively there will be a collection day next Saturday (23 December).

"On Saturday hay and fodder can be delivered to the Wellington Shire Parks and Gardens Depot in Finegan Court, Sale, where it will be collected and distributed by the VFF to farmers in need," said Sgt Van Andel.

"Basically we will accept anything that’s edible.

"It would be a great Christmas present for any landholder affected by the fires," said Sgt Van Andel.

The VFF will control all donations of hay and fodder to ensure the appropriate feed reaches animals in most need.

Finegan Court, Sale, runs off Saleyards Road near the level crossing.
