Next Meeting
When: Monday 19th of June 2006
Time: 7:15 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Where: Salvation Army Hall,
Bridle Road, Morwell.
Annual Meeting:
The meeting in June will be the annual meeting for the presentation of reports and the election of office bearers. All residents are cordially invited to attend
Driver’s responsibilities towards pedestrians:
The law dictates that when entering or leaving a roadway, where you have to cross the footpath (ie leaving or entering a driveway), drivers must give way to any pedestrians on the footpath. When entering an intersection drivers must give way to pedestrians crossing or about to cross the road.
Anti –Hoon Laws:
Anti-Hoon laws which come into effect in July 2006 will see drivers caught drag racing, performing ‘Burn Outs’ or engaging in other dangerous ‘Hoon’ acts, face having their cars impounded, immobilised or permanently confiscated.
Credit Card Fraud:
Credit card fraud is an unfortunate reality with Australians losing around one hundred million dollars a year in credit card fraud.
You can help to protect your card from misuse by following these simple steps:
-
When using your card to make internet purchases make sure you buy from reputable sites that use encryption. You’ll know if a site is using encryption by the padlock symbol that will appear at the bottom of your screen.
-
Try not to let the card out of your site when you hand it over to make a purchase.
-
Never give your credit card details to anyone, even if contacted by someone claiming to be from your bank or credit card company.
-
Think of your credit card as cash, not just a piece of plastic. Take care to protect your card from loss or theft.
-
Ensure your transaction slip is completed correctly before you sign it.
-
Always check your statements and if you suspect there are fraudulent transactions on your account, report them to your bank or credit card provider immediately.

Rosemary Davidson decided to employ someone to mow her lawns and cut the edges on a weekly basis. Looking through the ads in the paper, she decided to use someone local — Pip’s Mowing Services.
Pip seemed a nice enough young man, prompt and reliable. However, when Rosemary received the first bill, she was alarmed that the cost was double the price he’d quoted.
Rather than mailing a cheque to the address on the bill, Rosemary decided to check her arrangement with Pip on the next mowing day. Fortunately for Rosemary and Pip that she did, as it turned out a scam artist canvassing bills in local letterboxes had replaced Pip’s bill for one of his own. Rosemary followed her instinct, and didn’t pay the bill until she had seen Pip. (From National Crime Prevention)
